Bingo industry representatives discussed advertising options with a local tourism officer in Sarnia-Lambton, Canada. The region is trying to find ways to bring back American tourists and, with them, the desired and stronger American Dollars.
The problem started when Canadian dollars, the local currency, grew stronger. That, together with the increase in the price of fuel and the confusion over new passport requirements -under the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative-, resulted in fewer Americans crossing into Canada. Also, more Canadians choose to go abroad on vacations.
Bingo is one of the main attractions the region offers to Americans. Tourism Sarnia-Lambton, a local organization, offered the main bingo halls to include joint advertising in their current brochure campaign. Brochures include passport information and local merchant discount programs in which the bingos could participate.
Sarnia-Lambton is a federal district in the southwest corner of the province of Ontario, in Canada. It’s right next to Lake Huron, part of the chain of lakes. Nearby U.S. states are Michigan and Ohio. The two main bingo operators in the Sarnia-Lambton region are Bingo Country and Harvey’s Bingo.
